January 2020

Ahh, January, the dead month … but we managed to fill it pretty well!

We had some more family movie nights (the ottoman pretty much is staying downstairs permanently at this point), and more time on the Switch. The Lendlers came for a visit; all four kids brawled it out playing Arms and Mario Kart, while we grown folk drank champagne and talked. Annika and I went to the tea party restaurant in Saratoga, which had been a Christmas gift from me. And speaking of tea, the kids and I spent a lovely afternoon at the Patels’ drinking chai and eating Indian snacks. Lukas was the Star of the Week at school; his presentation included a video of him on the V-drums, his classmates were very impressed. Grandma & Grandpa babysat twice in one week — once while we went to R.’s office party, held downtown at the Tech Museum, and two days later when we went up to SF for an overnight, seeing comedian George Wallace as part of SF Sketchfest (which had been an xmas present to R. from me). Lukas and Daddy’s first basketball game (of two, for the season) was this month; it was a stone-cold RIOT. The kids were much better than R. had led me to believe, and the whole thing was so much fun — our team won, Lukas made a basket, and all the parents behaved themselves and cheered for both teams. We went to the annual Burns Night at the Grants’ house and all had a fun evening to more or less wrap up this section of the calendar.

Quotable
—“Grandpa’s teams must be winning — he’s not yelling!”
—Lukas, correctly divining the situation re: Grandpa’s football-watching
