February 2020

February, a short month with a lot going on!

We kicked things off with Lukas and Daddy’s second and season-final basketball game; this time, we brought the grandparents, and our team won again! Afterward, we all went out for lunch, then sofa-shopping with Grandma & Grandpa. The very next day was the Super Bowl, which, per tradition, was at our house with the Carneys (feat. a lot of Splatoon). The next weekend was Grace’s birthday sleepover; with Annika away for the evening, R. and I tried Hoosiers with Lukas, but it was too slow and talky, so we switched and watched Ant-Man. Los Alamitos had its father-daughter dance, held at Castillero to accommodate more people; Annika and Niamh and some other friends volunteered on the decoration crew and staffed tables during the event. She had really NOT wanted to do it, but ended up having a great time and not wanting to leave! Valentine’s Day started with breakfast chocolates (I am more Edna than I ever realized, lol) and included the Castillero Honors Assembly; Annika was in the highest-GPA group to be honored, and we were so proud of her! In the second half of Presidents' Week, we went to Tahoe with the Carneys. We had great weather -- snow on the ground, but no travel restrictions -- and had a great time sledding a quarter-mile-long hill on a golf course near the house we rented. The kids got their rampant screen time, and the grown folk drank Hippie Top Hats and lazed around. On the 29th, R. and I went out to dinner at Dio Deka, an upscale Greek restaurant in Los Gatos, which was a gift from Aunt Amy and Uncle Paul. I mention this evening specifically, because … well, read next month’s entry.
